Headaches that occur along with nausea can be triggered by various factors that range from brain abnormalities or even food sensitivities. It is recommended that the individual should note down their headaches and every time they feel sick so that the doctor can utilize the information to check for a pattern when diagnosing the condition.
Migraine headaches are described as headaches with excruciating pain that can cause nausea at the same time. Some individuals experience severe migraine headaches with nausea at some point in their lives.
If the headache and nausea experienced by the individual seems to persist or becomes worse, it might indicate an underlying health condition that requires medical attention. In such cases, a doctor should be consulted as soon as possible for proper diagnosis.
Abnormal brain activity
Anomalous patterns in the brain activity can initiate the start of migraine headaches and nausea. The nerve pathways within the brain are disturbed and prompt the headaches and nausea. Always bear in mind that the nerves become inflamed and the pressure generates pain and nausea.
The triggers vary from one individual to another and should be monitored to determine the individual causes. Some of the recognized causes of headaches include exposure to bright lights, alcohol consumption and allergies. Hormonal changes, stress and certain odors can also trigger sore headaches in some individuals.
Foods that are capable of triggering a migraine attack include processed foods and baked products, nuts and dairy products. Even food additives such as MSG and nitrates can be considered as culprits for the pain.
Infections
Children oftentimes experience headaches and nausea due to a bacterial or viral infection. The abrupt start of an intense headache and vomiting should be assessed right away to exclude the possibility of encephalitis or meningitis.
The infection is often triggered by a mosquito bite when it comes to encephalitis. As for meningitis, the fluid and tissue that surrounds the brain becomes infected, usually after another illness such as an ear infection or the flu. Aside from the headache and nausea, other symptoms are present with encephalitis such as personality changes, tremors and coma.
Aneurysm
An aneurysm occurs once a blood vessel surrounding the brain becomes dilated. The inflamed artery produces headache and nausea and can continue to grow in size up to a balloon-like growth and eventually burst, resulting to coma and death.
Weakened walls that surround the brain usually cause aneurysms. The cause for the weakening around the brain might be congenital and continues to worse as the individual ages. Other contributing factors include arteriosclerosis, smoking and excessive consumption of alcohol.
Many individuals experience headache with nausea at some point in their lives. On the other hand, once it becomes a persistent issue, it requires proper assessment by a doctor to rule out other serious health issues.
